I like to spend my time in Smithfield differently to others, or very similar to some. Taking in some of the arty scenes around the Smithfield Neighbourhood. You shouldn’t miss out on checking out some of the haunted places in Dublin either!
The light House cinema
The Light House Cinema offers its visitors an extra special cinematic experience while also providing a vibrant cultural space in Smithfield for festivals, events and performances that happen throughout the year. The Light House Cinemas gives screen time to up and coming must see movies but also showcases event cinema performances from all over the world.
With four screens, a café and bar, cinema goers can enjoy great films, great food and a range of craft beers, wines and cocktails before, during and after the film. Find The Light House Cinema at Market Square in Smithfield.
Climb the generator tower
If you’re looking for a challenge and some stunning views, climb the Generator Tower. This 11-story building offers panoramic views of Dublin city centre and the surrounding countryside. While it may be a bit hazy on a rainy day, the climb is still worth it for the exercise and the unique perspective.
This famous building was once part of the old Jameson whiskey distillery, take a climb up the 259 steps for a spine-tingling adventure overlooking the Irish capital. Or better yet, you could visit the distillery itself just next door to the tower.
Smithfield Fleadh
The Fleadh is a little like Mardi Gras in New Orleans, Carnival in Notting Hill or Oktoberfest in Munich. This street festival celebrates the greats of Irish trad music, all along the streets of Smithfield.
The fleadh, pronounced “Flaah” is a national festival that moves location every two years. However Smithfield hosts it’s own each year. Another big thumbs up for the cool neighbourhood title.
The Hendrick street art tour
The Hendrick is excited to announce a new 45-minute self-guided audio tour of its trailblazing curated collection — the largest collection of its kind in the country, featuring over 270 works from renowned Irish and international street artists, including James Earley, Fiona Power, Maser, James Kirwan, and Conor Harrington.
This immersive 45-minute experience delves into the evolution of street art, uncovering the story behind this colourful canvas of creativity from graffiti roots to modern masterpieces, highlighting some of the stand-out pieces on the property, and available only to hotel guests.
Where to eat in the Smithfield Neighbourhood
Eating in Smithfield, honestly what a joy. So many creative spots, and while not confirmed nor opened yet. We are hearing there is a Bambino opening in the old Token venue!

Located just off Smithfield Square, Urbanity brought a unique modern space to the neighbourhood using their own bespoke design. Certainly worth a visit, Urbanity promises visitors to Smithfield a relaxed environment with beautiful fresh meals from morning through to evening.
Urbanity specialises in exceptional, high quality coffee, while also prioritising locally sourced fresh foods. Not to mention their irresistibly Instagram worthy presentation!
Third space
Designed as the perfect meeting place, Third Space appreciates the stories behind their customers and creates an atmosphere that resonates with the reality of Dublin city life. Located in the Smithfield Markets, Third Space has an informal environment accompanied by a great menu.

Proper order coffee co.
For all your espresso needs Proper Order Coffee Co. has got to be your go to! You’ll find this gem in Smithfield Square. Dedicated to brewing and serving the best of the best, Proper Order even have a coffee training school to further guarantee great tasting coffee.
Enough messin’ about coffee, it’s time for a proper accompaniment. Choux, Morning Buns, Cardi B’s… yes we’re talking about Cardamom Buns. The wild child of Proper Order, No Messin’ is only stocked here. Wake up and smell the coffee… and pastry….
Fish shop
Craving fish and chips or fancy a selection of the best seafood classics? You’re going to fall in love with Fish Shop. Literally a minute’s walk from The Hendrick, Fish Shop is found at 76 Benburb St. in Smithfield.
They’ve come a long way! When they began, their renowned Fish and Chips were served in a converted shed. Now you can enjoy an evening in their beautiful restaurant or get their Fish and Chips and their Fish Burger to take away.
Oscars cafe bar
No better way to spend an evening then by grabbing some grub in Oscars Café Bar. Located on Smithfield Square it serves delicious food and promises an amazing experience alongside vintage furnishings and a great selection of craft beers and wines.
Drinking in Smithfield ‘Hood
When food is scarce and your larder bare And no rashers grease your pan, When hunger grows as your meals are rare – A pint of plain is your only man. You may be asking… what is a pint of Plain, well the term penned by Flann O’Brien is all about a pint of Guinness. If you’re visiting during the Summer months, you must check out the cracking Beer Gardens in Smithfield Neighbourhood

If you’re in Smithfield and have a passion for Irish music, you may have just found your new home! The Cobblestone has traditional music sessions seven days a week ensuring that the tradition and skills of trad are kept alive.
As a music venue The Cobblestone also opens up for events and gigs, sessions and classes from Sean-nos to set dancing, anything is possible and all are welcome! Pop in for a drink and take a listen at 77 King Street North, Smithfield.
Fidelity bar
Fidelity bar is another one of the Smithfield Neighbourhood favourites. Located just off Smithfield Square on the Red Luas Line, their great staff, music and beer ensures a memorable night in Dublin. Fidelity Bar serves a cracking selection of crafties, many are brewed by their owners Whiplash Beer. After a fantastic night, you’ve only a two minute walk back to us at The Hendrick!
Bonobo
Bonobo’s is a fabulous cocktail bar in Smithfield and only a five minute walk from us at The Hendrick. Offering a selection of cocktails, craft beers and wines, Bonobo also has incredible pizza!
Frank ryans
Frank Ryans is Smithfield’s cosy local pub always buzzing with activity. Rich with memorabilia, you can get an inside look into Dublin city culture. Always a passion for music, Frank Ryan’s have regular live music performances of blues, rock and even trad sessions. Thursday evenings have an amateur recording session, which is well worth a look.
L. Mulligan grocer
A pub swimming in culture with a passion for Irish produce. Mulligans have a delicious offering of food with a menu that changes regularly showcasing the best of seasonal food.
Their love of whiskey, gin and beer ensures a mighty night in Dublin. Regular tasting events are also something to watch out for located in Stoneybatter, near Smithfield, and only a five minute walk from us at The Hendrick!

I think after you’ve visited these spots, you’ll soon realise that Time Out were wrong, the Smithfield Neighbourhood is the coolest in the world!
