The Hendrick Smithfield, Ireland’s only street art hotel, has opened up its ground floor lobby and outdoor terrace event space to local artists for absolutely free. Our aim is to be the ideal location for artists to host a networking event with art to the forefront.
The Hendrick Smithfield is dedicated to showcasing and supporting local and international artists, with over 270 unique pieces of street art hanging in its lobby, corridors, and in each individual bedroom. Having opened in 2019, The Hendrick was excited to join the vibrant Smithfield and Stoneybatter community. With Covid setbacks for all businesses, we are delighted to launch our initiative of free venue hire in full force this year.
In January, we put a callout on our Facebook and Instagram pages for emerging artists to host their events in our space. We were offering time for artists to experiment and get their work in front of an audience in one of Dublin’s most distinct spaces.
Since January, we have hosted 15 different type of events with a wide range from art exhibitions, comic book launch party, fundraisers, and concerts! While the space has its limitations, we are amazed at the generous and creative work that is on show with each gig. We are committed to creating an outstanding venue for all kinds of occasions.
Past events in our Dublin city centre venue
Previous events include the movie screening of RTE Documentary “The Irish for Sex” starring Bláithín de Burca, Poets for the Planet – a variety show of local spoken word artists and musicians surrounding an ecological theme, Black Tones – a poetry night for the black and brown community in Dublin city, Movhers – a networking event night for women in tech, and JP Lynch Gig- a local folk musician.
The initiative has been a roaring success but it’s not over yet! We’re calling for any and all artists in Dublin city centre who have a great idea and need a great space to reach out to us! We’re looking for poets, musicians, writers, actors, and everyone in between who has a passion for the arts and wants to get their work in front of an audience. We’re ready to create a special occasion for your event in the perfect location in Smithfield.
